These are some of the other recordings I did for fun, apart from the
answering machine messages on this site. In fact, most of these recordings
preceded the answering messages. Like those messages recordings, these
are typically either acappella or with high harmony content.
Recommended listening: Mr. Sandman,
Naturally, and Dentist!
(1) Bidin' My Time
| Song
Name |
Bidin' My Time (George Gershwin)
|
| Recording
Date |
1995 |
| Description |
This song is from Gershwin's musical Crazy
For You, which is my all-time favourite!
This was the first song I recorded on my first
ever multi-track recorder, which was a 4-track Yamaha recorder
given to me by a friend after University. It allowed me to finally
do what I had been wanting to do for a long time - record all
the voice/harmony tracks myself! :)

(2) Dentist!
| Song
Name |
Dentist! (H. Ashman and A. Menken)
|
| Recording
Date |
1995 |
| Description |
This is from my second all-time favourite musical
- Little Shop of Horrors!
This version was based on the stage musical version
rather than the movie (Steve Martin) version. Excellent backing
vocals by my University friend Sandie Chia.
This was the first song I recorded on my then
newly-purchased *8*-track multitrack recorder, the Yamaha MT-8X.

(4) Oohyeah!
| Song
Name |
Oohyeah! (Grasshoppers)
|
| Recording
Date |
1996 |
| Description |
This was a track on an album by a famous Hong
Kong band Grasshoppers. I can't remember the original
name of the song, but it's got many "oohyeah" sounds
in it, so I named it that! How appropriate for this site.. :)

5) Mister Sandman
| Song
Name |
Mister Sandman (The Four Aces)
|
| Recording
Date |
1996 |
| Description |
This is a classic 50's song by the Four Aces,
the same one that was played in Back To The Future.
Excellent backing vocals by Sandie Chia again.
This song is probably the most difficult in terms of deciphering
the various harmony parts.

6) Naturally
| Song
Name |
Naturally (Huey Lewis & The News)
|
| Recording
Date |
1997 |
| Description |
This was the song that first sparked my strong
interest in all things acappella. I just thought it was absolutely
brilliant, and first attempted it with others in school (in 1988
when I was 18), which failed miserably, then again with others
in University, which was an improvement but still sucked (click
here for a recording of a practice session). This time I think
I finally got it right. Mind you, it was in a recording studio
with unlimited tries. Oh, and this was also my first recording
using my digital 12-track recorder - the almighty Soundscape SSHDR!

7) 7
| Song
Name |
7 (Prince)
|
| Recording
Date |
1997 |
| Description |
This is one of my all-time favourite songs by
Prince, from his "Symbol" album. I loved it so much
I felt I just had to take up the challenge to do a cover version
of it, so here it is.
